What you will be doing as a Transportation Manager:

The European Transportation Manager is responsible for defining, building and sustaining the infrastructure needed for achieving the highest levels of service (delivery, quality, lead time) while managing costs effectively. This individual is responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling the overall operation of inbound, outbound, intercompany and direct shipments/deliveries as well the metrics and measures that report on the operational effectiveness and overall success of the execution of the transportation strategy.

The European Transportation Managers' mission is to deliver solutions that balance cost and service (delivery, quality, lead time) that meets or exceeds internal & external customer expectations.

  • Results oriented, metrics leader and transportation professional that has a track record a) in sourcing and contract negotiations with carriers and other logistics providers offering services throughout the EU b) transportation management of a complex network serving the EU region;
  • Experience in all modes of transportation. Experience with management of dangerous goods desired but not mandatory;
  • Autonomous strong analytical and computer skills. Ability to run analysis / data crunching on his own;
  • Ability to detail projects and drive implementation. Hands on and able to write SOP, routing guides and drive implementation with internal & external stakeholders.

As European Transportation Manager, you work closely with the small RSD transportation management team and with the Global Transportation Group (TTG). You report directly to the Sr Manager Transportation Europe.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities and tasks of the European Transport Manager are:

  • Review, analyze, monitor, and manage transportation activity and spend for assigned lanes, shipping sites and carriers; cover all elements of transportation management, i.e. addressing costs through rates negotiation and improving costs through process improvements (RFQ, benchmarking, shipment consolidation, change of transportation mode, routing guides, freight audit & payment, …), and improving operational metrics (quality, transit time);
  • Management of transportation cost on local P&L level; Design RCCM, present this to internal stakeholders and implement cost containment initiatives;
  • Design appropriate inbound & outbound road/air networks utilizing a proper mix of Full Truck Load, Less Than Truck Load, Groupage and Parcel carriers. Work with internal stakeholders to implement underlying projects;
  • Work with purchasing/planning to develop the optimal inbound strategy balancing costs and service levels (stock availability, warehouse operations & flow through);
  • Optimize efficiency of existing self-managed fleet and analyze opportunities for expansion into additional territories;
  • Identify appropriate methods and carriers for imports into the EU from the U.S and Asia utilizing appropriate combinations of ocean, air, and ground carriers in concert with consolidation, and deconsolidation points;
  • Logistically assess the best way to enter new or expanded customer markets; coordinate across departments to establish appropriate action plans;
  • Facilitate formal business review meetings with corporate, regional and local carriers to evaluate performance scorecards, follow up on corrective actions and work on continuous improvements;
  • Leverage best transportation practices across the company and team up with the global transportation team for this purpose.

Requirements:

  • Proven ability at transport sourcing and contracting;
  • Bachelor degree in supply chain management, business logistics or economics/finance;
  • 6 to 10 years of transport/logistics management experience preferably with shipper, carrier, and/or consulting firm;
  • Proven knowledge in parcel transport with global, European and local providers;
  • Current and working knowledge of all applicable legislations (ADR, IMDG, IATA…);
  • Experience managing a complex, multi-modal transportation networks serving both domestic and export markets;
  • Hands on Leadership skills to take charge and initiate actions to drive change;
  • Superb organizational skills to plan, organize, and set priorities to facilitate timely execution. Able to work in a complex matrix organization with changing priorities;
  • Comfortable in a structured and procedural environment;
  • Hands on analytical qualities to make sound decisions decision, through the conceptualization and evaluation of different courses of action to meet or exceed operational goals;
  • Fluency in Dutch and English.
