Controller - Payments Accounting (FinTech Projects)

A leading global technology-driven organisation is seeking a Controller - Payments Accounting to join its Amsterdam-based finance team. This role sits at the intersection of finance, payments, and technology, supporting the delivery of strategic FinTech initiatives and system transformations.

This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional to shape end-to-end accounting frameworks for new payment products, ensuring compliance, scalability, and operational excellence.

The Role

As Controller, you will act as the finance representative across cross-functional initiatives, partnering with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to support the design and implementation of new payment flows and financial systems.

You will play a key role in ensuring accounting accuracy, control integrity, and regulatory compliance across all product launches while building scalable and efficient processes.

Key Responsibilities

FinTech & Transformation Projects

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver new payment products and system implementations
• Translate complex transaction flows and intercompany structures into clear accounting requirements
• Ensure adherence to US GAAP, SOx, and regulatory frameworks
• Influence process and system design to enable scalability and efficiency
• Support testing (UAT), go-live, and post-launch (hypercare) activities
• Identify opportunities for automation and process optimisation

People Leadership

• Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals
• Set priorities, manage performance, and drive team development
• Build a scalable team structure aligned with organisational growth

Financial Control & Governance

• Oversee monthly close processes, reconciliations, and variance analysis
• Ensure robust internal controls and SOx compliance
• Partner with audit and risk teams to meet regulatory requirements

Candidate Profile

• 6-8 years' experience in accounting within a multinational or fast-paced environment
• Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent)
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls (SOx)
• Experience working with financial systems (SAP preferred)
• Proven track record in team leadership and stakeholder management
• Ability to work effectively with technical and non-finance teams
• Experience in payments, FinTech, or platform-based environments is advantageous
